International Mission for Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle is on a mission to attract lots more international visitors and it seems they’re succeeding.

The castle may be closed to visitors until 29 March, but the teams behind the scenes have certainly been open to travelling far and wide to achieve their goals for the new season.

Judging by the number of successful world-wide trips and global meetings that group sales manager Caroline Robinson has undertaken recently, Alnwick should prepare to welcome a whole new influx of visitors.

Tourism value keeps on growing

We measure the impact of our activities wherever possible. In 2012, we agreed with Northumberland County Council that by 2016 we would aim to:

· Increase the value of tourism by 6% (achieving an increase in visitor spend of £42m)

· Stimulate the creation of 794 full time jobs

· Attract an additional 100,000 overnight visitors

Winners announced at North East England Tourism Awards

Tourism businesses from across the North East came together last night to celebrate the success and importance of the tourism industry in the region. The glittering ceremony held at The Boiler Shop in partnership with Crowne Plaza Newcastle was hosted by BBC Radio Newcastle breakfast show presenter Alfie Joey.

A remarkable 32 businesses out of the 53 that were shortlisted were from Northumberland and out of the 15 categories, achieved an impressive 9 gold awards.
