Accreditation Forum Sept 15

An industry workshop was held to discuss the accommodation accreditation schemes run by Quality in Tourism and the AA. Questions are being asked about the future of these schemes both nationally and locally. Are they still relevant? Should Northumberland's marketing be opened up to non-accredited businesses? These questions and more were debated.

The North East Tourism Awards 2011

The North East Tourism Awards 2011 was a fabulous event. Sunderland's Stadium of Light was the venue for celebrating the region's very best tourism businesses – and of course Northumberland was well represented. Even better, we scooped a good number of the top awards.

The Federation of Small Businesses and Northumberland Tourism invite you to join them for a special event. If you are in the Tourism and Leisure industries or operate in the supply chain to these industries then this meeting is a must for you. If you are thinking of diversifying into these industries or believe you could supply goods and services to them then you should be there.

Northumberland wins in Countryfile Awards

BBC Countryfile magazine has announced the results of the first-ever annual Countryfile Magazine Awards – and Northumberland has featured strongly amongst the winners.

Alnwick is the proud winner of 'Britain's best market town', beating stiff opposition from Richmond in North Yorkshire and Stow on the Wold in Gloucestershire. The Hadrian's Wall Path was also voted 'Britain's Greatest Walking Trail'.

Also featuring was Northumberland National Park, which came third in the 'Favourite National Park' category, and Belsay House and Gardens, which came second in the 'Britain's Finest Garden' category.

Winner of the Conservation Project of the Year is the Northern England Red Squirrel conservation project.
