Accommodation Sought......

Pip Bowhay from Kenton, a small village near Exeter in Devon, is a passionate charity fund-raiser and a determined, inspirational lady. For Pancreatic Cancer Research she walked the 479 miles of the Santiago de Compostela back in 2015 and shaved her hair off in 2016; she has organised abseils down the local church tower, held frock swaps and compiled a cookbook – all to raise money for a variety of good causes.

Her remarkable efforts seem even more so when you consider that Pip lost half her sight as a result of a stroke in 2007 and her husband Richard passed away at the hospice in Exeter in 2011.

This May, Pip is walking from Dunnet Head (north of John O’Groats) to Land’s End via Holy Island, a walk of nearly 1000 miles that will take her 3½ months. All monies raised via sponsorship and donations in support of Pip’s walk are to benefit Hospiscare – the adult hospice charity that took such great care of Richard, Pip and their two girls through very difficult times.

Towards the end of last year Pip began to approach churches along her route, putting out a plea for help with free accommodation. She has been overwhelmed by their response, meaning that she has secured a place to rest her head for 56 nights of her 110-night Plod, i.e. over half of her journey.

Pip is relishing the challenge of the walk, has bought a tent, and is prepared to pay to camp wherever needed and possible. However, she is now endeavouring to find accommodation from B&Bs, hotels, pubs, holiday lets etc who would be willing to offer one night’s free-of-charge bed and shower (with towels) for the remaining 54 locations, at least one of which is, we believe, in or near your area – please see list of places and dates attached. Securing ANY free accommodation would cut down on Pip’s own personal expense as ALL the funds raised by her Plod, whether by sponsorship or donation, will be going in their entirety to Hospiscare.
