Destination Management Plans
This assessment process is for strategic projects that are in the early developmental stage. A strategic project is one likely to make a significant change to the overall tourism product on offer to a visitor to Northumberland. A project must demonstrate that it has an important role to play in meeting the priorities of the Northumberland Area Tourism Management Plan (ATMaP) – the tourism strategy for Northumberland.
This process does not directly provide access to funding. Rather it is a gateway to gaining support from the public sector which can be in the form of endorsement / recognition, access to public sector staff who are expert in their field, or help to reach potential funding sources.
Identifying how your project fits in with wider investment in tourism in the county can also give private sector investors more confidence in your project.
Northumberland's tourism partnership includes everyone who operates, influences or has some involvement with tourism in the county. The partnership is entering a period of decline in public sector resources, and private sector investment is uncertain. Plus, large projects can take a significant time to develop. Therefore, it is in Northumberland's interest to ensure that projects continue to evolve, making best use of existing resources, and to be ready for any future funding / investment that might become available.
